In April of 2008, three months after their fateful meeting, Kai Van Bodegom-Smith and Irene Caguinguin hatched an idea. Kai had a penchant for the Oriental Healing Arts and a passion for caring for others; Irene was a business artist in need of a subject and a canvas. Together, they built an entity that has taken on a life of its own. Breakthrough Healing Arts was built on the foundation that people are divine creations of their physical presence, their energetic emotions, and their thought patterns. And the space that they built, at first with the humble intention of being both a classroom and treatment space, has truly become a safe haven in which people from all walks of life can come in and express themselves fully, through practice, meditation, treatments and, sometimes, just in community.
