When was your first time getting in touch  with Crystals? My journey started when I was 9, it was an amethyst bracelet my mom bought me with the hope that I could score better in my studies. It was a brief encounter with amethyst. My deeper connection with crystals began during my twenties, and happened during my awakening process. To me it was a gift from the universe,  there were many crystals and gemstones showcased on the rack; I was particularly drawn to this grapefruit pink and red-ish stone. That was my first rhodochrosite – a.k.a the stone of the compassionate heart. And, I started learning more  about crystals and its benefits that could help with attuning my chakras and vibrations.

Throughout my journey, many other crystals and meteorites have come into my life – guided and protected me from the highs and lows. Crystals are also a good tool for manifestation.

What is Crystal?

You may have a few crystal jewelry but have no idea what are the names or benefits of the crystals. Regardless of your initial contact with crystals, they come into your life as a blessing – to help you connect with yourself, tune your chakras, manifest and so much more.

The formation of crystals, gemstones, rocks, and meteorites involves complex geological and astronomical processes that span millions or even billions of years. Here’s a brief overview of how each of these comes into being:

Crystals Overview

Crystals form when a liquid cools and starts to solidify. The molecules in the liquid align in a highly structured, repeating pattern, creating a crystal lattice. This process can occur in various environments. The absorption of different minerals gives rise to many different shapes, colors and density of crystals. Crystals are alive and powerful cosmic gifts, every crystal carries a certain vibration and frequency and we can benefit from their properties.

Gemstones, on the other hand,  are specific types of crystals, rocks or minerals that are prized for their beauty and rarity. Meteorites are fragments of rock and metal that originate from outer space and survive the passage through Earth’s atmosphere to reach the surface. Tektite, is a natural glass formed from  terrestrial debris ejected during meteorite impacts. It is usually in black, green, brown, canary yellow or gray color.

The history of crystals spans thousands of years and encompasses their use in various cultures for healing, spiritual, and decorative purposes. Here’s a comprehensive look at the history of crystals:

Ancient Civilizations and Crystals

According to the book crystal directory, “6 thousands years ago the ancient Babylonians believed that crystals were placed on Earth as gifts from the planetary gods they worshiped. They were great astrologers or magicians.

In Ancient Egypt, tektite and crystals like Libyan desert glass, lapis lazuli, turquoise, carnelian, and clear quartz were highly prized. They were used in jewelry, amulets, and burial masks, such as the famous mask of Tutankhamun, which includes lapis lazuli and libyan desert glass.

Egyptians believed that crystals could offer protection and health. For example, they placed turquoise on the deceased to guard them in the afterlife.

In Ancient Greece, the word “crystal” comes from the Greek word “krustallos,” meaning ice, as they believed clear quartz was ice. Hematite, named after the Greek word for blood (haima), was used by warriors for protection and strength. The Greeks used crystals like amethyst to prevent drunkenness, as its name comes from “amethystos,” meaning “not intoxicated.”

In Ancient Rome, crystals like emeralds, sapphires, and diamonds were popular for their beauty and believed to have protective powers. The Romans used crystals for healing purposes and believed in their power to enhance health and well-being.

In Ancient China, Crystals like jade were highly valued for their beauty and perceived health benefits. Jade was believed to protect against illness and bad fortune. To date, many Chinese from all ages wear jade for joy, prosperity and longevity.  The demand for jade has increased and so do the prices.

Crystals were often linked with astrological signs and used in various magical practices to invoke specific energies and powers. Some ancient practitioners would blend the crystals benefits in their remedies and essential oils.

These days, we are fortunate enough to have access to various types of crystals and people from around the world are becoming aware of the benefits and metaphysical properties of crystals, incorporating them in our daily life, manifestation and spiritual practices.

While the beneficial effects of crystals and stones are well-documented and can bring positivity into people’s lives, they should never be a substitution for medical advice. If you have concerns about your physical or mental health, it is crucial to contact a qualified medical professional immediately.

I can’t wait to share with you more about crystals and their benefits I came across along my journeys.
